Bangkok - Ayuthaya - Lopburi - Korat - Pimai - Surin - Ubon Ratchathani Day 1 (TUESDAY) BANGKOK AYUTHYA LOPBURI KORAT Early departure from your hotel to the ruins of Ayuthaya, located at approximately 86 Km. from Bangkok. Reigned by 33 Kings from the different Siamese dynasties until 1767, then it was conquered and completely destroyed by the Burmese. Firstly visit Wat Yai Chai Mongkol, the temple constructed in 1357 AD. by King U Thong. Then visit Wat Mahathat, constructed during XIV century, almost destroyed by the Burmese invaders. Then proceed to visit Wat Phra Sri Sanphet which was the biggest temple of Ayuthaya, constructed during XIV century, the compound once contained a 16-meters standing Buddha covered with 250 Kg. of pure gold, which was melted down by the Burmese conquerors. It is mainly known for the Chedis erected in the quintessential Ayuthya style, which has come to be identified with Thai art more than any other single style. Ending the visit at Wat Mongkol Bopit, with many interesting ruins which showed how important was this great city, the capital of Thailand during 1350-1767 AD. We continue to Lopburi, stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Then visit San Phrakan, the temple of Monkeys, the pagoda of Prang Sam Yod and the Royal Palace of King Narai. Continue to Korat via Saraburi to visit the temple Phra Buddha Bath (15 Km. from Lopburi) to see the footprints of the Lord Buddha. We pass near by Lam Ta Kong artificial lake before arriving at Korat. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Sima Thani or similar. Day 2 (WEDNESDAY) KORAT PIMAI PHANOM RUNG SURIN American breakfast at the hotel we start the day early and visit Korats main nearby attractions, created 10 centuries ago by Khmer Architects. The ruins of Phimai the main tourist attraction of the northeast likes the shrines at Angkor, it revealed the worship to the simulacrum of Shiva and Vishnu in Hinduism and Buddhism during the past period. The monuments endure in stone were constructed during XII century by Jayavarman VII, continue to Buriram via Huai Thalaeng, lunch at local restaurant. After lunch departure to visit the restored temple of Prasat Hin Khao Phanom Rung, the most impressive of all Angkor monuments in Thailand. And continue to see the lesser-known ruins of Prasat Hin Muang Tham. It is about five Km south of Phanom Rung, this Khmer site dates to the late 10th century and was sponsored by King Jayavarman V. The laterite wall is still in fair condition, but most of the prasat has tumbled down. It gives a good idea of what Prasart Phanom Rung looked like before it was restored. After the visit transfer to Surin for dinner and overnight at Thong Tarin Hotel or similar. Day 3 (THURSDAY) SURIN UBON RATCHATANI BANGKOK. American breakfast at hotel and departure at 07.00 hours towards Uthumphon Phisai to visit Wat Sra Kamphaeng Yai, the very old Khmer temple which is constructed 900 years ago with its stupa that depicts the Indian God, Indra, riding the Erawan elephant. The main gate is a large black structure in Khmer style with inscriptions in both Thai and Khmer. Then passing through the province of Si-Saket, famous for the typical Kai Yang, a special kind of roast chicken, well-known all over Thailand. Proceed to Ubon Ratchathani with stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Then continue to Khong Chiam, the point where the river Mun flows into the famous Maekong river creating a peaceful and breathtaking image, the clear Mun river falling down in the muddy but impressive Maekong River. Arrival at Pa-Taem to visit the site of a massive cliff overlooking Laos, under which are some well-kept ancient cave paintings and are believed to be 4000 years old. Return to the airport of Ubon Ratchathani, for flight TG.031 departure at 19.40 pm. to Bangkok.
